Network Documentation
Proper documentation can turn headaches and chaos into peace of mind and order. Without it, work is often repeated unnecessarily, and hours upon hours of work can be wasted.
To illustrate this point, consider a specific client of ours whose security camera needed a simple configuration change. A job that should have taken 15 minutes took nearly 4 hours because the camera’s administrative password was unknown and the original setup software was missing. It would have taken no more than 5 minutes to document this information during the original installation. That oversight cost the company hundreds of dollars. It brings to mind the infamous lament: “There’s never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.”
One of the very first steps we take with all of our clients is to initiate (or update) a complete network documentation system. Moving forward, all changes are tracked in that document. This not only makes our job easier (consequently costing you less money) but also makes any personnel or service provider transitions much smoother.
Careful documentation is not just important, it is critical.
